Course Description:
During this course, we will explore how websites are made and designed to be more appealing to their targeted
audience. Web Design is an extremely broad field that expands from topics such as the basics of computers,
photoshop, color theory, HTML, CSS, and much more.
Classroom Expectation:
● Academic Honesty and Plagiarism: Students are required to complete all work on their own. If a student is caught
cheating or plagiarizing, the student will receive an automatic 0 for that assignment.
● Students must respect all materials, lab equipment/facilities/mentors/peers.
● Students are expected not to break or damage any lab equipment. If they notice any equipment
broken/damaged, they should report it to the teacher immediately.
● If students unplug any of their or other’s equipment including monitors on purpose, they will have to pay for
any damage and may receive 2 days of suspension.
● Students are expected to not draw or write anything on the desk.
● Students are not allowed to chew gum in class. If students are chewing gum, they’re expected to help remove it
stuck on the bottom of classroom desks.
● Students may eat/drink in class after asking for permission and only at the middle desks. Students may not
eat/drink near the computers.
● Students are expected to be seated properly without leaning back in their chairs or with their feet on the table
or any other dangerous way.
● If you find unattended items (such as a Chromebook charger, personal laptop, cell phone, wallet, money,
notebook, etc – please report it to the Teacher so the item can go back to its respectful owner.)
● Students are expected to always be responsible and respectful towards each other including the instructor. (No
cursing/profanity within class.) (No bullying/harassment.) (No dangerous horseplay.)
● Students are expected to be productive and focus on classroom activities during class time.
Policies:
○ No Phone Policy: As per the school, there is a no phone policy meaning that no phones or personal electronic
devices should be out during class time without permission granted from the teacher. If a phone is out
during class, the phone will be confiscated for the remainder of the period. If a phone is confiscated 2 or
more times, It will be given to the Office or a call home will take place.
○ No Food/Drinks Policy Near Computers: Water is allowed but not near the computers. If a student wishes to
eat, they may ask the teacher for permission to go outside or ask to sit at the middle table to eat. ○ Tardy
Policy: Based on the school’s policy, if a student arrives to class late after the first 5 minutes of class starts, the
student will be required to bring a tardy pass from the Office
○ Late Work Policy: Late work will only be accepted if it’s less than a week later. NO WORK WILL BE
ACCEPTED AFTER A WEEK!
Materials:
● School Chromebook/Laptop (You may bring your device. However if it gets damaged or stolen – it will be your
responsibility.) It is recommended to use the computers in the lab since they will have all the programs that will be
required for the class.
● Notebook (For Lectures)
● Pencil, Black Pen, Blue Pen, Erasers, Ruler
Course Review:
During the first semester, students will first be introduced to the Basics of Computers and the web design process (and
principles associated with it), elements of web design, and important concepts needed to manage a successful website.
Students will be introduced to the web designing industry and various tools that will be used in these industries. Students
will be also exposed to common/simple coding languages such as HTML and CSS. During the second semester, students
will learn how to apply those coding languages to make an appealing website. Students will also learn Photoshop to help
make their website more appealing. After working with multiple different designing tools, students will be able to easily
create appealing websites no matter what the website may be about.
Grading:
● Participation (Notes, Class Participation) (20%) ● Classwork (Google Classroom Assignments) (30%) ● Assessments
